Learning To Ride

Talk about a mixed evening on Saturday. First headed to the university to interview Caitlin Rose, who was good company, although to be honest my line of questioning wasn't that coherent! Then we grabbed a quick photo to use with the interview, which you can see below. As a gig photographer, this kind of thing is the one I find hardest, I'm not used to being able to use flash or talk to the person I'm shooting, and I'm naturally nervous when taking people's photograph.

Sadly I wasn't able to stay for the show, given that I'd ejoyed the Night & Day gig last year.

Then on to the X-Factor arena show for a very long evening of hanging around, as we were only allowed 1 song of each artist, from 1 side of the pit, and there were long gaps between allowed songs.

My World

It's almost ridiculous to think that when I shot Justin Bieber supporting Taylor Swift 18 months ago, none of the photographers knew who he was. Now here he is headlining arenas on his own.

Nice light, horribly high stage, but happy with the results, also narrow pit for anyone who's planning on shooting it. The central spot where the pit comes out is a prime location, but either side is OK. He seems to favour the left as you look at the stage.

Plan C

Unfortunately my Plan B photos weren't great midweek, so here's one of his support, Liam Bailey.



Gig postponed last night, so won't be back in action until the end of this week.

Archandroid

Good to get to shoot Janelle Monae again - liked her last time, but the lighting was grim. Better luck this time on that front. Note for shooters - the first three songs are rolled into one, so the first time the crowd cheer, you're out of there!

In My Head

Jason Derulo at the Apollo tonight. I'll tell you this much - every single fan in that room was going home happy.

No complaints from the photographers either. Lots to shoot and reasonable light. That'll do me.

Mr Smith

Lots of fun to shoot Ne-Yo tonight at Manchester Arena. Loads of action to watch, what with his moves and the dancers.
